Inspired by Mexico City and its many vibrant taquerias, and the criminal lack of tortas in Melbourne, Todd and Stu opened Frankie's Tortas & Tacos in an old kebab truck on Smith St in 2021.

As the inner North's understandable appetite for hot Mexican sandwiches increased, expansion became necessary.

The new, fully fledged restaurant on Johnston St opened to hungry crowds in 2023 and remains busy year round. Largely hand-built by Todd and Stu, the shop is a real nod to CDMX interiors. Lots of red, lots of metal, kitschy décor accents and diner style furnishings.
